Brian+Mary+Leo are super awesome! I’ve met Mary months ago and I knew she was my kind of person: funny & straight to the point, plus we have several things in common like our love for other cultures and food   Being around Mary and Brian is always a good time, so when they hired me to photographed their brand new baby I was over the moon! It was a very amazing baby session.

This session was a celebration of Leo’s first months in this world. His grandparents came along and some other amazing props made it into the session, like his parents’ traveling gnome that has been a family tradition for years, an uber cool dragon(becuase Leo was born in the Year of the Dragon) and Mary even read to Leo paragraphs of the famous book The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

It has been a long time since I devote some time to my self-portraits, and by that I mean a good, planned session. I miss having that one on one time with my camera, for me it is liberating, inspirational and just plain awesome! But a present all the way from Texas, from a complete stranger gave me a great reason to go out, and think of some cool images to give in return. If  you know me, you know that GRATITUDE is at the top of my list, and when someone shows me LOVE, I am on a mission to give as much LOVE back as I can. Here is the story of the amazing woman that gifted me the most UBER COOL SCARF I have ever owned…

It all started on Facebook, I was looking at a photographer’s page that I love and she had posted an instagram of her wearing a uber cool scarf. I was the fist one to commented on it and if I recalled correctly my comment was: “OMG I love it! I WANT ONE!!!” (Yes, all caps and excessive exclamation points) 3 minutes later, the creative designer of the scarf  contacted me. Her name is Shareen and she is just plain AWESOME.  After several emails and exchange of information, she sent me two gorgeous scarfs! These scarfs are super beautiful, chic and very trendy, an accessory that will make you stand up on a crowd! (Believe me, I wore mine to an event yesterday and several people approached me just to ask me about my scarf! )

Shareen, Thank you for such beautiful and generous present! I am sure your store is going to be very very successful!

Noun: The process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually.

A couple of years ago I was taught by the very talented Christine Kane that choosing a word that will inspire every single action you make over the year, is way better than setting a whole bunch of resolutions that most likely will never be accomplished and she was so right!

This year I decide to choose the word GROWTH. In this 2012 not only I want my business to grow, but I also want to grow in my personal life, my relationships and grow my possibilities. I have set my intention and I have said it out loud, and I am sure  the universe has heard me: IN THIS 2012 I HAVE CHOSEN TO RISE.

Taking self-portraits is a whole project, and finding the perfect composition and right focus can be hard. Here I didn’t know I was that close, nor that the crop was right above my lips (which I LOVE) or that the focus was on my zipper, “hello zipper” as my husband told me. But regardless of all that, I just ADORE this image

B&W.

I LOVE B&W; there is something very special about it and no matter how much I use it, I just never get enough. If you want to convert images into B&W never, ever shoot in monochromatic. Always shoot in color and then edit the image to B&W either in Aperture, Photoshop or Lightroom.  This way you can control the contrast and the image does not lookplain gray.

This is another urban legend, just like the cheese. Who says that your family ALWAYS has to be looking at the camera? That is so not true. Beautiful photos are also captured when the family is interacting. Let them be! This tip references back to Chasing Toddlers. As I said before, just sit back and let the moment unfold organically. Shoot away and move around so you get different angles.

I am happy and excited you landed here! For the next 9 days, I will be sharing some awesome photography tips, thanks for reading them and feel free to share them with your friends.

So you have a brand new camera and now you want to take some awesome pictures, right? Looking at my sister with her camera and how she interacts with her kids while trying to get a picture made my head spun. Not only did she get super frustrated, but she did not get the shots she wanted. I hope these simple tips help you achieve better images of you and your family.  Happy shooting! 

CHASING TODDlERS

Chasing toddlers can be a bit frustrating as most of the times they don’t want to cooperate. You can’t blame them; toys are way more interesting than a grown up yelling their name trying to get their attention. So first things first, RELAX! Let your toddler play. You can sit back and capture that playful time for a couple of minutes.

Now, you want to catch his/her attention to take that cute picture of him/her looking at the camera, right?Use a toy or an object that makes a loud and fast noise, preferably a noise that is not familiar to him/her. This could be a bell or a whistle. Make sure that the noise is not too loud; otherwise you may scare your toddler. Do not let the toddler see what is making the noise, this way he/she will find the noise interesting and actually look at you.

This time, we went to a very special place in town and the light was amazing. Gaby has grown so much and now it is some much easier to photograph her as she actually now listens to me and doesn’t make run as mach as before. Thanks Gaby! Jaedan still as great as ever, and he is always so attentive. He is truly a great kid and such a good big brother

Kyndle is a doll! She is super playful and it was hard to pin her down as she just wanted to explore this location. She ran from corner to corner, and it was extremely cute to see her so excited Brandon+Jennifer thank you for coming out to this year’s mini sessions and I am looking forward to keep photographing Kyndle as she grows

If you follow my blog, you probably recognize this awesome family! Justin+Lisa+Noah are super amazing and extremely funny, I truly enjoy their company This family session was great despite the extreme hot weather and horrible humidity! You see, I checked the weather channel the day before our session and it said it was supposed to rain after 4 pm, so we got to the location at 3 Pm to discovered there was only a beautiful, cloud free, sky! So we did or best to stay positive and calm despite the 90+ degree weather.
