a very talented photographer asked me the simplest question of all: “Why do you do what you do?” I sat in silence for a moment and my memory took me back to a an exact moment in time, the moment where I knew the power of a camera. I was 5 or 6  years old and my uncle was a well established photographer, we were on a family outing to the country side and he had his camera with him. I was following him, not because I liked him, but because I wanted him to take my  picture! He was always photographing his kids and he never, not even once pointed his camera at me. I was determined to have him photographed me. I thought that if I was to walked right next to him, the two of us alone, then he had no other choice but to take my picture. I was wrong. As we were walking, we saw this five year old, country girl, standing on the street and he asked her if he could take her picture. He was so excited to take her picture, but she looked at him and with a determined no she ran away.  I stood there looking at him, in my mind I was screaming at him: “DON’T YOU SEE ME?? I AM HERE, TAKE MY PICTURE!” but I said nothing and he kept on walking.

20 years later, and after collecting only a handful of pictures of me as a child, I asked  my husband for a camera, and I started a Self-Portrait project. I photographed myself for two straight years before I pointed my camera at somebody else. I do what I do, because I know people want to be celebrated & remembered.

Noun: The process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually.

A couple of years ago I was taught by the very talented Christine Kane that choosing a word that will inspire every single action you make over the year, is way better than setting a whole bunch of resolutions that most likely will never be accomplished and she was so right!

This year I decide to choose the word GROWTH. In this 2012 not only I want my business to grow, but I also want to grow in my personal life, my relationships and grow my possibilities. I have set my intention and I have said it out loud, and I am sure  the universe has heard me: IN THIS 2012 I HAVE CHOSEN TO RISE.

Taking self-portraits is a whole project, and finding the perfect composition and right focus can be hard. Here I didn’t know I was that close, nor that the crop was right above my lips (which I LOVE) or that the focus was on my zipper, “hello zipper” as my husband told me. But regardless of all that, I just ADORE this image

If you know me personally, or read my blog often you know that I LOVE self-portraits. My career as a photographer started as a self-portrait artist. I was lucky enough to meet amazing female self-portrait artists thanks to Flickr and I even got published in an fabulous book called She Took Her Own Picture. After two years of photographing myself, being publish on a book and having showcase some of my work on Artwork San Francisco, I decided to established a brand as a family photographer; it has work amazingly

Taking Self-Portraits has absolutely nothing to do with being narcissist of self-center; it is actually a celebration of oneself. As a photographer it would be weird if I didn’t have any pictures of myself right? And since not all the time I can count on another amazing photog friend to photograph me, I take matters into my own hands. All the images that you see of me on this blog or website have been taken by me(unless specify other wise).

I got EXTREMELLY EXCIED when I came across a very challenging post on Go{4} Pro. Leah, the writer and photog behind Go{4} Pro challenged her readers to go the extra mile and photograph themselves (Leah Thank you for doing this! I keep telling photogs to try self-portraiture and I am glad you have made it public!) So here are my latest pictures. I took advantage of an empty parking lot and had a great time with my camera. Thank you local radio DJ for the awesome remix you played while I was enjoying myself!

Ok, a little entry about my self-portraits and my 52 week project (gosh I am so behind! But it is all good. I have been extremely busy with all my new and returning clients. Thank you for all your love! And for spreading the word about my photography among you loved ones like a wild fire!)

From the old archives, one of my favorite pictures. The location was a local carnival, and yes I am wearing my wedding dress. Processing done by the talented Miss Aniela

I just got this image printed on Metal and it looks so freaking amazing I can’t wait to invite friends over just so they can see this! Location Midtown Miami. We were shooting with my good and talented friend Juan Roja when this car drove by and I had to jump in front of it to make it stop. That car IS A BEAUTY and I had to have my picture taken with it!( Oh yes and that is a wig!)

This one was taken in my bedroom with my 50mm f1.4 Love the way the focus is on my right eye. Sometimes I just get lucky

This one I took it at my local gym! It was a project but I nailed it! Second place on a competition hosted by the South Florida Camera Club Oh and I printed this on acrylic and it looks STUNNING!

This one was taken on my bedroom after I showered. I love the vintage look of it! Inspired by the song Watch Over Me

I love Sevgi (If you live in London or around London you must get your picture taken by her, she is AMAZING!). I saw her work on Flickr a couple of years back and somehow we became Internet friends. Last summer she came to Miami and we met for the first time; I took her over to the Spanish Monastery and we had our first photographic collaboration, it was great!

Last week, she was back in town and we met again. This time I took her to an alleyway in downtown Hollywood and we had lots of fun with all the details that small place has. This second collaboration was AWESOME! (I hope our next meet up is in London )
