Ancient Spanish Monastery Wedding Guide:

Where Is the Ancient Spanish Monastery Located?
16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL 33160
Tucked away in North Miami Beach, the Ancient Spanish Monastery feels like a secret garden in the middle of the city. It’s just a short drive from Aventura and about 30 minutes from South Beach, making it a convenient and beautiful option for both local and out-of-town guests.
A quick note for couples: Traffic in this area can be heavy during weekday rush hour. If you’re getting ready nearby or planning a first look, build in extra buffer time. A smooth arrival sets the tone for the whole day.
The Story Behind The Ancient Spanish Monastery
It’s not every day you find a wedding venue in Miami that’s nearly 900 years old—but that’s exactly what makes the Ancient Spanish Monastery so special.
Originally built in 1133 AD in Sacramenia, Spain, the monastery was home to Cistercian monks for over 700 years. In the 20th century, William Randolph Hearst purchased the cloisters, dismantled them stone by stone, and shipped them to the U.S. Eventually, they were reassembled in North Miami Beach.
Today, the monastery is operated by the Episcopal Church. It offers couples a truly unique setting filled with history, charm, and European-inspired architecture.

Ancient Spanish Monastery Wedding Cost:
The venue offers flexible rental options. You can book it for your ceremony, reception, or both. Each is priced separately, and costs vary based on the day of the week and time of year.
Rates typically differ for weekday weddings (Monday–Thursday), weekends (Friday–Sunday), and peak Saturdays.
Please contact the venue for current pricing and availability.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception Spaces The Monastery Offers:
The property spans over 20 acres and offers a mix of gardens and historic architecture, perfect for a variety of wedding styles and guest counts.
The Gardens
There are four distinct garden areas, each with its own personality. Whether you’re planning an intimate ceremony or a lively reception, there’s a spot that suits your vision.
The Cloisters
These covered walkways surround an open-air courtyard, offering over 8,000 square feet of space. It’s ideal for receptions that want a romantic, architectural backdrop with room to dance under the stars.
The Chapel & Chapter House
These enclosed spaces provide a more traditional, sacred setting—perfect for couples seeking a ceremony that feels classic and timeless.
With its combination of history and versatility, the Ancient Spanish Monastery can truly adapt to your unique vision.

Best Time of Year to Get Married at the Ancient Spanish Monastery
Timing can make a big difference in your experience, especially in Miami’s unpredictable weather.
November through April is widely considered the best time of year to get married here. The weather is cooler, the skies are clearer, and the humidity is low, which makes outdoor ceremonies and portraits in the gardens or cloisters feel magical.
May through October is Miami’s hotter season. Expect high temps, afternoon rain showers, and humidity. It’s also important to note that hurricane season runs from June through November, with the peak typically in August and September.
No matter the season, the Monastery’s lush grounds and historic architecture make it a stunning backdrop year-round. But if golden hour light and cool breezes sound like your dream, late fall to early spring is your sweet spot.

How Many Guests Can You Host?
The venue can accommodate up to 300 guests, depending on the space you choose. Whether you’re planning something small and personal or a big, joyful celebration, the Monastery makes it easy to host a wedding that feels just right.

Wedding Vendors:
The Ancient Spanish Monastery works with a curated list of some of Miami’s most talented wedding vendors. You’re also welcome to bring in your own team, as long as they’re insured.
Important: Catering must be approved by the Monastery. Make sure to check with them early in your planning process.
And if you’re still looking for a wedding photographer who knows this venue inside and out (and got married here too!) I’d love to chat. Contact me here!
