Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding Guide

Planning a wedding at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens feels like writing your love story in an Italian romance novel—except you’re still in Miami.

With sweeping gardens, bayfront views, and architectural drama that makes everyone stop and stare, it’s no wonder Vizcaya tops the list for couples seeking elegance, intimacy, and that effortless wow factor.

I recently gathered the latest information about hosting a Vizcaya Museum & Gardens wedding from Belen Castillo, owner of Bellisimo Events, a luxury wedding planner who has planned over 50 weddings at this venue. Between her expertise and my experience photographing here, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

(And if you’re considering an engagement session at Vizcaya, I wrote a separate guide for that too!)

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding

Why Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is One of Miami’s Most Sought-After Wedding Venues

Before it became one of Miami’s most iconic wedding venues, Vizcaya was a private winter estate built in the early 1900s by industrialist James Deering. Designed to resemble a centuries-old Italian villa, Vizcaya was completed in 1916 and features architecture inspired by the Italian Renaissance, blended with local craftsmanship and Caribbean influences.

The estate was a hub for art, culture, and extravagant entertaining—and it remains that way today. Its gardens, fountains, and antique-filled rooms have made Vizcaya a National Historic Landmark, offering a rare mix of old-world elegance and tropical romance.

So why is Vizcaya so special for weddings?

Because it’s not just beautiful—it’s immersive. A wedding at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens offers your guests an experience that feels like a destination wedding without leaving Miami. Whether you’re hosting a black-tie affair or a fashion-forward micro-wedding, this venue makes everyone feel like they’ve stepped into a living painting.

Every stone pathway, every hidden garden, every archway becomes part of your love story, layered onto a piece of history. It’s romantic, it’s dramatic, and it photographs like an absolute dream.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Location & Accessibility

Address: 3251 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33129.

Vizcaya is conveniently located and easily accessible from:

  • Miami Beach (20 minutes)
  • Brickell (10 minutes)
  • Downtown Miami (10 minutes)
  • Coconut Grove (5 minutes)

Its proximity to I-95 also makes travel straightforward for guests coming from Broward and Palm Beach Counties. If you have out-of-town guests flying into Miami International Airport (MIA), it’s about a 20-minute drive.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding Cost & What’s Included

Venue Rental Fee (as of 2025):

  • $23,000 for up to 100 guests
  • Includes private access to the estate from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • $25 per additional guest over 100

Extension Options:

  • You can extend your reception from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM for an additional $2,400 per hour (this extension is only available on Fridays and Saturdays)
  • You can extend your reception from 11 pm to 12 AM on Sundays to Thursdays.

What’s Included in Your Rental:

When you book a Vizcaya Museum & Gardens wedding, you get:

  • Full private access to the estate’s gardens and courtyard starting at 5:00 PM (once the museum closes to the public).
  • Early access for wedding party and vendors – you can start portraits and set up earlier in the day while the museum is still open to visitors.
  • Exclusive use of the grounds during your event hours.

By the time your guests arrive, Vizcaya feels like it’s entirely private —just you, your guests, and a space that feels like a real-life painting.

What’s NOT Included (Budget Accordingly):

The venue rental sets the stage, but you’ll need to bring in everything else:

  • Tenting: Required for weddings with over 90 guests. Budget $8,000 – $12,500, depending on size and layout.
  • Catering: Must choose from Vizcaya’s approved vendor list (all top-tier caterers).
  • All rentals: Tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware.
  • Lighting: Uplighting, string lights, chandeliers, etc.
  • Florals and décor: Everything from centerpieces to ceremony installations.
  • All other vendors: Photography, videography, DJ/band, stationery, etc.

While this might sound like a lot to coordinate, it’s actually what makes Vizcaya so special. You’re not working around hotel carpeting or preset menus. You get to design an experience that looks, feels, and flows exactly how you’ve imagined. You have complete creative freedom—and with the right planner, it all comes together beautifully.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding Capacity

Outdoor Spaces: Up to 300 guests
Indoor Courtyard: Up to 100 guests

Vizcaya offers five distinct event spaces:

Outdoor Locations:

  • The Mound
  • South Terrace
  • East Terrace
  • The Garden

Indoor Location:

  • The Courtyard (perfect for smaller, intimate celebrations)

Important: If you’re planning to host more than 100 guests, a tent is required. This isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a venue requirement. Tents ensure guest comfort and protect against Florida’s unpredictable weather, especially during the summer months.

Best Time of Year for a Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding

Miami’s weather is famously sunny, but timing still matters when planning your Vizcaya wedding.

Peak Season: November – May

This is when most couples book their Vizcaya Museum & Gardens weddings, and for good reason:

  • Temperatures are mild (70s-80s°F).
  • Low humidity (for Miami standards).
  • Minimal chance of rain.

If you want that dreamy golden-hour glow without melting, opt for a date during these months.

Off-Season: June – October

Summer weddings at Vizcaya are possible, but come with considerations:

  • Higher temperatures (85-95°F with humidity).
  • Daily afternoon thunderstorms.
  • Hurricane season (June 1 – November 30, peak August-October).

If you’re booking a summer Vizcaya wedding, you’ll need:

  • Solid rain backup plans (tenting becomes even more important).
  • Flexibility with weather changes.

That said, Vizcaya’s gardens are lush and beautiful year-round. Summer weddings can be romantic and gorgeous if you’re prepared for the heat and have the right contingency plans.

Getting Ready for Your Vizcaya Wedding

Important: Vizcaya doesn’t offer on-site getting-ready spaces for couples or the wedding party.

Your hair, makeup, and pre-ceremony prep will need to happen off-site. I always recommend staying in Coconut Grove—it’s just a 10-minute drive from Vizcaya and offers beautiful, stylish hotel options that also make for stunning getting-ready photos.

Pro tip: Coordinate timing and transportation from your hotel to Vizcaya with your planner, especially if you’re doing a first look or portraits before the ceremony. You’ll want enough buffer time to account for traffic and any last-minute touch-ups.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding Vendors & Requirements

Required Vendors:

Vizcaya works exclusively with a select group of approved caterers and requires you to hire a wedding planner from their preferred list. This isn’t negotiable, and honestly, it’s a good thing. Planning a Vizcaya wedding involves logistics that require someone who knows the venue inside and out.

Recommended Planner:

Since you must work with an approved planner anyway, I highly recommend Bellisimo Events (the planner who provided much of the information for this guide). They’ve planned over 50 weddings at Vizcaya and know every corner, every rule, and every timeline consideration. They’re part of the preferred vendor list and genuinely excellent at what they do.

Other Vendors:

For all other services (photography, videography, florals, DJ/band, etc.), you’re welcome to choose your own vendors—as long as they’re fully insured.

Photography Tips for Your Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding

As someone who’s photographed several weddings at Vizcaya, here’s what I tell every couple:

Give yourself TIME for portraits.

Vizcaya is massive—and I mean that in the best way. There are grand staircases, winding garden paths, hidden alcoves, waterfront views, and architectural details everywhere you look. All of it photographs beautifully, but it takes time to explore.

I recommend carving out at least 60 minutes for couples’ portraits so we can photograph you without feeling rushed. Trust me, you’ll want photos in multiple spots, and the estate is worth the time investment.

Bring someone to help you.

Whether it’s a stylist or your most organized friend, having someone to carry your bouquet, adjust your attire, and touch up your makeup makes everything go more smoothly. There’s a lot of walking involved, and an extra set of hands is invaluable.

Wear walkable shoes (at least for portraits).

The grounds have gravel paths, stone stairs, and uneven surfaces. Save the stilettos for your reception entrance and opt for chic flats or block heels while we explore the estate. Your feet will thank you, and your photos will still look flawless.

Consider a first look.

A pre-ceremony first look allows you to:

  • Get all your couple portraits done before the ceremony.
  • Actually enjoy your cocktail hour with your guests instead of being whisked away for photos.
  • Have a private, emotional moment before the big event.

It’s not for everyone, but at a venue like Vizcaya, where there’s so much ground to cover, it makes the timeline much smoother.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Event End Times

Sunday – Thursday:
All events must end by 11:00 PM, with an option to extend until 12:00 AM for an additional fee ($2,400/hour)

Friday – Saturday:
Events end at 11:00 PM, with an option to extend until 1:00 AM for an additional fee ($2,400/hour)

Plan your timeline accordingly, especially if you want a full dinner service, toasts, cake cutting, and dancing. Your planner will help structure the evening so everything flows without feeling rushed.

Is a Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Wedding Right for You?

Vizcaya is perfect if you want:

  • Timeless, elegant, romantic aesthetic.
  • European-inspired architecture and gardens.
  • A venue that feels like a destination without leaving Miami.
  • An iconic, photographically stunning location.

Vizcaya might not be ideal if:

  • You prefer all-inclusive venues with in-house catering and coordination.
  • You want on-site getting-ready spaces.
  • You need total flexibility to bring in any vendor (caterers and planners must be from approved lists).

Every couple is different, and every venue serves a different vision. If Vizcaya speaks to you—if you’ve been dreaming of gardens, history, and that Italian villa romance—this venue is worth every bit of planning it requires.
