This Vizcaya Museum wedding is what dreams are made of — a romantic European garden, pastel florals in full bloom, and a candlelit dinner overlooking the bay. Honestly, what more could you ask for?
Maddy and Stephen met back in college, and after years of dating, living together in NYC, and eventually settling in Miami, they got engaged and started planning their dream wedding at the iconic Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
The vision? A classic and elegant celebration that would leave their guests in awe. To bring it all to life, they teamed up with Gigi Agresti of Events by Gigi, who perfectly blended timeless design with a wow-worthy guest experience.

Enjoy A Glimpse Into Maddy & Stephen’s Vizcaya Museum Wedding

Getting Ready & Details:
Vizcaya is one of the most exclusive venues in Miami, but it doesn’t offer a designated getting-ready space, so if you’re planning a wedding there, booking a nearby hotel is essential.
Maddy and Stephen chose The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove, just 8 minutes from Vizcaya, which made the morning of the wedding feel easy and relaxed. Since they had a large wedding party and needed extra space, Maddy got ready in the Presidential Suite while Stephen used an Executive Suite.
Maddy was all about thoughtful, intentional details — and it started with the invitations. They featured a beautiful watercolor illustration of Vizcaya, setting the tone for the day and giving guests a peek at the venue’s charm and lush gardens.

A Romantic First Look at Vizcaya:
After getting ready and taking a short drive to the museum, Maddy and Stephen shared a beautiful first look at one of Vizcaya’s most iconic architectural features — the coral stone steps leading to the Mound.
I love this spot! The grand oak trees frame the steps perfectly and offer soft, filtered light that photographs beautifully. It’s also tucked away enough to feel private, and with a great team (like we had), it’s easy to manage light foot traffic.
It’s important to know that even if you’re hosting a private wedding, Vizcaya remains open to the public until 5 p.m. Maddy and Stephen had access to the gardens starting at 3 p.m., so we did encounter a few visitors during portraits. Luckily, their amazing valet bridal team was there to assist with Maddy’s dress and help navigate everything smoothly.
I made sure to use the more secluded areas for portraits, and the visitors we crossed paths with were very respectful. Still, it’s essential to remember that vendors can’t interrupt or disturb the guest experience — so planning ahead is key. I always recommend allocating at least an hour for portraits and staying flexible with timing and locations.

Private Vows Exchange:
Maddy and Stephen are very private, and even though their guest list was limited to close family and friends, they chose to exchange vows in complete privacy, just the two of them. Of course, my team and I were there to capture the moment, but we kept our distance so they could have that time to themselves, without distractions.
I love it when couples carve out space for a moment like this. Wedding days can feel like a whirlwind, and having a few quiet minutes together, just to connect, is a really meaningful way to pause and take it all in. Private vows are also perfect for couples who are more reserved and want to keep something truly personal between them.

A Sunset Ceremony on The Mount at Vizcaya:
The Mount at Vizcaya is one of my favorite spots on the property — especially at sunset. The soft, golden light filtering through the trees is absolutely beautiful, and the short walk from the mansion to the ceremony site feels like a stroll through a European garden.
Maddy and Stephen’s ceremony was nothing short of romantic. The floral design featured an abundance of white and pale pink roses, creating an elegant and timeless atmosphere that perfectly complemented the historic architecture of Vizcaya.
Many couples who choose to get married on The Mount like to give their guests a heads-up about the walking path and coral steps, which can be tricky to navigate in stilettos. If any guests need assistance, a golf cart can be arranged to help with part of the walk — just keep in mind that there are still a few steps to climb, and there’s no elevator access to the ceremony site.

A Candlelit Reception at Vizcaya:
After a romantic ceremony and some heartfelt family portraits, Maddy, Stephen, and their guests were ready to celebrate!
Their reception took place on the East Terrace, overlooking the bay. Since Miami weather can be unpredictable, the couple chose to add a beautifully draped tent—just in case. It turned out to be the perfect choice, creating a soft, intimate space for their evening.
The setup felt like stepping into a romantic garden dream. Sheer white draping created a cozy vibe, while rows of flickering candles cast the most magical glow as the sun went down. Tables were filled with lush florals in soft pinks, creams, and greens—elegant, but still warm and inviting.
After the first dances and a couple of sweet toasts, the party officially kicked off!
