Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding Guide

Couple at Miami Beach Botanical garden

If you’ve pictured your wedding surrounded by palms, orchids, and the sound of water instead of hotel carpet and chandeliers, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a three-acre tropical escape tucked in the middle of Miami Beach—minutes from the beach, the Convention Center, and Lincoln Road—but the second you walk in, the city disappears.

I’ve photographed weddings here, and the garden really does most of the work for you. Palms, native Florida plants, a koi pond, a 100-year-old banyan tree—it’s beautiful without needing much added to it.

Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding Details

Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding Location

The Garden is located at 2000 Convention Center Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139

It’s just blocks from some of South Florida’s best hotels, restaurants, and bars, which makes it convenient if you’re hosting a Miami destination wedding and want your out-of-town guests to have things to do.

The Spaces:

The Garden has four spaces, and most couples end up using a combination of them for their ceremony and reception:

  • The Japanese Garden — a small, quiet setting with a koi pond, a red bridge, bamboo, and stone lanterns. Best for smaller ceremonies (some sources cap it around 40 guests standing).
  • The Great Lawn — roughly 5,000 square feet, open, and better suited to larger ceremonies or a tented reception.
  • The Banyan Room — the Garden’s indoor space, with lofted ceilings and sliding glass doors that open onto a covered, sail-shaded terrace. This is your rain-plan option, and it connects directly to the outdoor terrace and lawn. This space accommodates up to 100 guests for seated dinners.

Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding Cost:

The rental fee depends on whether you’re hosting a weekday or weekend wedding, and it includes the full garden, a VIP suite, and a bathroom attendant.

The venue rental fees don’t include furniture rental, catering, flowers, music, photography, or a wedding planner—those you’ll need to hire separately. The Garden does provide a list of vendors they work with regularly if you want a starting point.

One thing to know: if you bring in your own vendors, you can only use catering companies from their approved list. All vendors working your wedding must carry insurance.

Guest Capacity

The Garden can host anywhere from an intimate elopement to weddings around 300 guests, depending on how you use the space and whether you tent it. If you’re planning something larger, confirm exact numbers with the venue’s events team directly, since capacity varies by layout and season.

Wedding Day Hours

All events must end by midnight. Plan your ceremony and dinner timeline with that in mind if you’re hoping for a late-night send-off.

Best Time of Year for a Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding

This is the one detail couples underestimate. June through October in Miami means heat, humidity, and hurricane season—not ideal for an outdoor wedding, tent or no tent. If you want a garden wedding here, the cooler, drier months (roughly November through May) will make the day easier on you and your guests.

Between the Japanese Garden’s koi pond and red bridge, the banyan tree, and the plantings throughout, there are plenty of natural locations without leaving the property. Golden hour filtering through the greenery is a favorite of mine.

Getting Ready

The Garden offers a room on-site you can use to get ready if you’d rather not travel the morning of. If you’d prefer a bit more space (or want hair and makeup done somewhere with better natural light), I usually suggest booking a hotel room nearby and heading back to the Garden via Uber, or renting a trolley if you have a larger group getting ready together.

Tropical florals meet natural textures in this vibrant garden reception, where pineapple, coconut, and ginger blooms set the tone for a colorful celebration.

Is a Miami Beach Botanical Garden Wedding Right for You?

This could work for you if:

  • You want a real garden setting without leaving Miami Beach
  • Your guest count falls in the intimate-to-mid-size range
  • You like the idea of natural surroundings doing most of the visual work
  • You’re okay coordinating your own vendors outside of catering

You might want to look elsewhere if:

  • You’re set on a summer wedding date (the heat and hurricane risk are real)
  • You need guest accommodations on-site
